Fruits and vegetables are needed every day for good health because they provide so many good things for the body, like vitamins, minerals, fiber, water – the list goes on and on. Due to the different tastes the choices from both of these groups provide, it’s easy to enjoy fruits and/or vegetables at any time of day, even for dessert!
Summertime is a fun time to spend visiting friends, enjoying the lake or backyard, or taking a road trip! Snacks are an essential part of any plans and with the abundance of tasty fruits and vegetables, can be a breeze to prepare while providing the nutrients needed every day. Fruits and veggies are a refreshing way to help stay hydrated in the heat because they have high water content. They also pack/travel well and they’re easy to eat.
According to the Centers for Disease Control’s (CDC) analysis of 2005 data, just over 27% of the adult U.S. population ate veggies three (3) or more times a day, and under 33% ate fruit more than twice a day – so most are not meeting the recommendations for good health.* This means many people are not only missing out on the nutrition fruits and vegetables offer, but on loads of flavor as well!
The hot days of summer are a cool time to refresh and hydrate, taking advantage of seasonal favorites from berries to watermelon!
